Yeshiva Ohr Simcha Campus
The campus of Yeshiva Ohr Simcha is located at 101 W. Forest Avenue, on the corner of West Forest and Williams Street in Englewood, NJ. It is on the western tip of Englewood, just a few blocks from the Northeast border of the community of Teaneck.
The campus was purchased in 2001. Previously the main building had been a large 2,200 square foot warehouse. To renovate the facility for the yeshiva, the first priority was to construct a temporary Bais medrash (study hall). By the winter of 2001 ten dorm rooms, all with state of the art accompanying facilities, were in place. Then, quite literally, “the boys moved in”.
During the summer of 2002 the next large renovation project was completed. Three additional dorm rooms were added to meet the growing enrollment. A large dining room was also completed. The crowning event was the completion of a beautiful new Bais
Hamedrash. It covers 6000 square feet and has the potential to seat 300
people.
Goals & Objectives
Education: By enhancing our staff both in the religious studies and especially in our secular studies department, we hope to provide our students with a more comprehensive and fulfilling curriculum. As we grow both in size and in academic achievement, we feel our incoming classes will benefit from more intense curriculums as well as an enhanced learning environment.
Technological: Due to our changing technological world, the student must be better prepared to interact on a higher technological plane. By affording them additional access to computers and computer-related technology, we hope to enable them to better prepare for the skills they will need to compete in today’s workplace environment.
Communal Involvement: In the coming year we hope to enhance our outreach to the community via our Website as well as through our E-Mail List of people in Bergen County, to keep them up to date on the programs the Yeshiva offers, including checking Mezzuzot and Tefillin, and our Shatnez testing project, as well as our tutoring program mentioned ion the following paragraph. Our Tehillim Hotline was introduced to the Bergen County community in January of this year. This allows individuals faced with a medical emergency to contact the Yeshiva to have our students recite Tehillim on their behalf. We hope to further disseminate the Hotline number to increase this opportunity to additional areas of Bergen County.
Our most ambitious project to date was begun in 2001; our Community Tutoring Program. This program served elementary age students throughout Bergen County. In conjunction with Yeshivat Ma’aynot and Bruriah, the program offers one on one Jewish Studies tutoring for children on all academic and religious levels. Tutoring which is done exclusively by the students themselves offers the community a readily available source of assistance as well as offering our students the opportunity to interact with the community at large.
