YESHIVA OHR Simcha WELCOMES A NEW SEFER TORAH

The sun was shining bright, with a crisp, cool breeze nipping the air. The weather was a perfect reflection of this excitement. A large crowd of men, women and children joined with the students, faculty and administration of Yeshiva Ohr Simcha, to rejoice in the completion of a new Sefer Torah. There was great joy; literally, “dancing in the streets,” as the Torah was escorted to its new home in the Yeshiva.
The festivities began bright and early at Congregation Shomrei Emunah, in Englewood, New Jersey, Rabbi Menachem Genack, of Congregation Shomrei Emunah and Rabbi Shmuel Goldin of Congregation Ahavath Torah, as well as many congregants and area residents, arrived to meet with the Sofer (Scribe) to help complete the writing of the Torah. Each person/family was assigned a different letter. Rabbi Yosef Strassfeld, Dean of Yeshiva Ohr Simcha, was on hand to greet all who arrived with great joy and happiness.

Upon completion of the last strokes, accompanied by the sounds of the Yossi Soibelman Orchestra everyone danced around the Torah, which was carried under the traditional Chupah (Canopy) to its new home in the Yeshiva. The Englewood police who were most cooperative and went beyond the call of duty with their concern for the myriad of details, including the assignment of the designated route for the parade. Yeshiva Ohr Simcha expressed their thanks to Chief of Police David Bowman and Councilman Michael Wildes for their assistance in coordinating this event.

At the doorstep of Yeshiva Ohr Simcha, which was the conclusion of the parade route, a second Sefer Torah was brought out to “greet and accompany” the new Sefer Torah to its new home in the Yeshiva’s Aron Kodesh (Ark). The festivities continued throughout the afternoon with dancing, speeches and a lavish gourmet meal to top off the celebration.

The Sefer Torah was dedicated by Mrs. Tessie Markowitz and the Schnur families of New City, New York, in loving memory of their dear and devoted husband and father, Mr. Fred Markowitz.
Yeshiva Ohr Simcha is grateful to the community for its ongoing support. If you would like more information about the Yeshiva, and its programs, please contact Rabbi Gidon Lane 201-816-1800 ext 104.
